CGI Update 6/24/2020

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that I am writing this welcome email. Only a month ago, we did not know if camp would be happening at all this summer. Finally we heard the good news that we were given the go ahead to open and with Gratitude to the Almighty, we are gearing up for a summer to remember. While there are still concerns on everyone's minds, we approach the days ahead with cautious optimism. We can't wait to see all our dear campers come bounding through the doors and pray to Hashem that everything should proceed smoothly.

As we've been saying, camp will look somewhat different but who says different can't be better? At Camp Gan Israel, we certainly believe that to be the case.

PLEASE READ THE UPDATES BELOW CAREFULLY TO MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD CAN ATTEND ON MONDAY, JUNE 29TH.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please be in touch with me by phone 845-274-2262 or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. you!

Looking forward to an amazing summer 2020!

Rabbi Simcha Morgenstern
Camp Director

We will have Camp Shirts set out on tables and ice pops for all campers. Campers will meet their counselors. Families will maintain 6 ft social distance while checking shirt sizes.

What to Bring

All personal items must go home with campers daily.
Please make sure everything sent to camp is clearly labeled.

Junior / Senior Division

  • Please bring a bathing suit, towel, swim shoes, sunscreen (goggles optional)
  • Hat & Disposable Water Bottle recommended. (We cannot use the water fountains stationed throughout the building. Instead, each bunk will have water coolers.)
  • All campers MUST wear foot apparel that have front toe closed. Open toed shoes or sandals are an invitation for injury and will not be allowed in camp. Water shoes worn to / from the pool are the exception to this rule.
  • Lunch (if not on Lunch Program)
  • Snacks are provided by camp

Mini Gan

  • Change of Clothing (toddler should send 2 changes)
  • 3 packages of wipes & Diapers (for those in diapers or in process of potty training)
  • Swim Suits
  • Water Shoes
  • Sunscreen (Spray is preferred for body and roll on or stick for face)
  • Container with child's name to store it all in.
  • Lunch (if not on Lunch Program)
  • Snacks are provided by camp

What NOT to bring

  • Campers should not bring any personal items to camp other than food and clothing.

Swimming & Water Play:

We have an experienced and skilled Aquatics Director, Brittany Kurland, who has been with us for several years. We also have a second lifeguard to assist her. We take water safety VERY, VERY seriously. All swimmers must wear silicone bands that are color coded by swim ability.

  • Junior / Senior Division campers swim daily.
  • Pre-K Campers also swim in the pool daily and learn beginner swim techniques.
  • Nursery & Toddlers do not swim in the pool. They enjoy splash pads and water play outside in our water play area.

COVID-19 UPDATE: No swim instruction this summer. And only two groups in the pool at a time.

Based on the current guidelines, we will not have trips this summer. This may change as the summer progresses.

Lunch Update: Unfortunately, a govt. subsidized lunch program did not materialize. The good news is that we've been able to negotiate a cheaper lunch rate at only $20 per week. Please call the office at 845-634-0951 if you'd like to participate. Lunch will only be ordered for those that have the lunch option selected in their account. We do have a standalone Friday pizza lunch option as well for $5 per week.  Measles:

  • Important Reminder: All campers and staff attending Camp Gan Israel are required to submit up-to-date, proof of immunization to MMR before attending Camp Gan Israel.
  • Campers & Staff must show proof of TWO MMR's or one MMR and a recent Titer showing immunity to MMR.
  • Younger campers, who have not had a second MMR scheduled yet, may be exempt.
  • Anyone who does not have the above cannot attend camp! No exceptions.

Camp Communication

  • The best way to stay up-to-date with Camp Gan Israel is via WhatsApp and Email.
  • You can join our one-way broadcast group via this link.

Forms:

All forms must be completed prior to a camper attending Camp Gan Israel. Please find your required forms here.

Security Fee

Due to a recent spike in antisemitic attacks and increased levels of crime, Camp Gan Israel has hired a full time armed security guard. To cover this extra cost, we are charging a $100 fee per family, regardless of how many campers are attending. Thank you for helping us keep our campers safe and secure. This fee will be added to each account and can be paid inside your UltraCamp account.

Payment:

This summer we are requiring all accounts to be paid up before each half. If you have not set this up, please contact the front office at 845-634-0951.

You can make a payment by clicking here.
